Bind your world to Discord
Last updated 5 September 2026
Every Bifrost world can run itself from a Discord channel you already have — no dashboard required once it is set up. This is the whole process, and exactly what you get at the end of it.
What you need
- A Bifrost world (from your dashboard).
- The Manage Server permission on the Discord you want to use — Discord requires this to add a bot, and the bind command checks for it too.
Step 1 — get your one-time key
Sign in, open your world, and choose Manage → Discord. Click Generate my link key and you will be shown a key that looks like bfr_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX.
It is shown once, works once, and expires a day after you generate it. If it expires or you use it up before pasting it anywhere, go back and generate another — there is no limit on how many times you can do that.
Step 2 — invite the bot
Add Bifrost to your Discord, Choose the server you want it in. It only ever asks for three things: permission to see the channel, permission to post in it, and permission to create one webhook — which is what lets it announce joins, deaths and the rest without you having to paste a webhook URL in yourself.
Step 3 — run /bind
In the specific channel you want your world to live in, type:
/bind key: bfr_XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Paste the whole key, including the bfr_ prefix — the bot will find it even if you paste a whole line of surrounding text. One channel holds one world, and one world links to one channel, so pick carefully: to move it later you unbind first, from the same Manage → Discord modal.
If notifications do not turn on straight away, it is almost always a missing Manage Webhooks permission in that specific channel. Grant it and run /bind again with no key — it repairs the existing link rather than asking for a new one.
What you get afterwards
Anyone in the linked channel can run:
/wake(or/start) — bring the world up. Allow about a minute whether it was sleeping or fully stopped./status— is it up, sleeping or stopped. The answer is only visible to whoever asked./notify— see what this channel is currently told about./help— a reminder of all of this, without leaving Discord.
Anyone with Manage Server can additionally run:
/stop— stop the world, saving it on the way down. Disconnects anyone currently playing./notify setting: joins on: false— turn a kind of announcement on or off: joins and leaves, deaths, the world starting or stopping, raids, bosses defeated, refused connections, each in-game day (off by default — it is the noisiest one), backups, and game updates.
Your world sleeps on its own a few minutes after everyone leaves and starts waking when someone runs /wake — you never have to think about either half of that.
Something not working?
- The bot says it does not recognise the key — it either expired, was already used, or was not typed correctly (keys never contain the letters O or I, or the digits 0 or 1). Generate a fresh one from Manage → Discord.
- "You need the Manage Server permission" — ask whoever set the Discord up to run the command, or have them grant you that permission.
- Notifications never switched on — grant the bot Manage Webhooks in that channel and run
/bindagain with no key. - Anything else — email support@bifrosthosting.com and a person reads it.
